Kitchen & Master Bath Remodel: Bringing Natural Light and Function to Every Space

For this Bellevue, WA home, we transformed both the kitchen and master bathroom with a focus on natural light, thoughtful storage, warm materials, and an airy, timeless atmosphere.

A Kitchen Designed Around Light, Flow & Function

The kitchen had the opportunity to become a much more functional and inviting gathering space. Our goal was to improve the kitchen flow while maximizing storage without making the space feel heavy or enclosed.

We selected warm honey-oak cabinetry to bring natural warmth and character into the room. The new cabinetry provides significantly improved storage, including a more functional pantry organization system that keeps everyday items accessible while maintaining a clean and uncluttered appearance.

A thoughtfully designed peninsula creates additional workspace and serves as a natural transition between the kitchen and living areas. It provides a practical place for food preparation, casual dining, and gathering with family and guests.

The countertops feature premium quartz, offering a clean, sophisticated surface that is both durable and easy to maintain. The subtle tones of the quartz complement the warmth of the honey-oak cabinetry while helping the entire kitchen feel light and cohesive.

Creating a Dappled Natural-Light Effect

One of the defining elements of the design is the lighting.

Rather than relying solely on bright overhead lighting, we created layers of illumination throughout the kitchen and adjacent living areas. The combination of ambient, task, and decorative lighting creates a soft, dappled-light effect inspired by sunlight filtering through trees.

This natural-inspired lighting approach gives the space warmth and movement throughout the day. In the evening, milky-shade globe lights add a soft glow that feels elegant without becoming overly formal.

The result is a kitchen that feels connected to nature—warm, calm, and welcoming.

Making a Dark Bathroom Feel Bright & Airy

Because the bathroom has little to no natural sunlight, material and color selection became especially important.

We chose airy, light-colored tile to reflect available light and visually expand the space. The soft palette creates a clean, serene atmosphere while preventing the bathroom from feeling dark or confined.

Instead of fighting the lack of natural light, the design works with it—using reflective surfaces, light finishes, carefully placed lighting, and subtle textures to create brightness and depth.

The result is a master bathroom that feels fresh, spacious, and peaceful, despite its narrow dimensions.
